OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAM

Foster Parent Advocacy Foundation Inc is a non profit organization that provides Community Resources, Educational Programs, Support Services, Legal Advice and Training services for foster parents and children in the child welfare system, through one on one mentoring relationships. 

(TAN) Take Action Now is a program for children who have left foster care and services will be provided for them during this transition to help them find housing, employment and health services. This program is to help them get on their feet.

Project Network is a program designed to help teens to be placed in loving stable homes and become adopted. We will conduct recruitment of foster parents who are interested in adopting teenagers age 13 and up.

Foster Parent Mentor Program is a program design to match foster parents with mentors, who will provide Friendship, Support and Positive role modeling. Mentors will be on call 24hrs to offer support to foster parents. This service offers foster parents the ability to reach out to professionals during critical times when most problems begin.
Foster parent Forums:

  1. Was designed to help foster parents during crisis and provide support services.

  2. Provides Educational services and Trainings to help the foster parent become effective in caring for the children in their home.

  3. Empowering foster parents with knowledge and awareness about agencies policies and procedures.

  4. Make sure that foster parents are receiving services for the child in their home. 

THE PROGRAM’S GOAL IS TO EDUCATE, TRAIN AND SUPPORT FOSTER PARENTS AND TO HELP THEM TO GET ALL THE SERVICES FOR THE CHILDREN IN THEIR HOME. 

FOSTER PARENT MENTORS:
The mentors will have a one on one mentoring relationship with new foster parents for one year. This mentor will provide support and positive role modeling to help the foster parent care for the child in their home.

FOSTER PARENT ADVOCATES: 
The advocates will provide advice and communicate the agencies polices to the foster parents. Attend meetings, Court appearances and Family Team Conferences with the foster parent.

SUPPORT SERVICES:

On call Foster Parent Mentors available 24 hrs to offer support to the foster parent & child and help deal with problems. 

WORKSHOPS, TRAININGS, RECRUITMENTS:
Foster parents are encouraged to participate in several scheduled series of workshops and trainings. Workshops and Trainings will cover topics and issues such as:

  1. Foster Parents Rights. 

  2. How placement affects children. 

  3. Being prepared when a child is placed. 

  4. Agencies Policies.

  5. Services that are provided to children in care. 

  6. Advocacy for children in care.

  7. Adopting a child. 

  8. Parents Rights.

  9. Working as a Team, Parent & Foster parent. 

  10. Family Team Conferences.

  11. The importance of Foster Parents attending court hearings.

  12. Foster Parents bill of Rights

The objective of these workshops is to educate and inform foster parents regarding problems and issues they face on a daily basis. To work with the foster care agencies to help create solutions to the problem existing amongst foster parents. To help create and establish the quality of life for foster parents in our community and the children in care.

COMMUNITY RESOURCE INFORMATION:
Provides foster parents and children with assistance to supportive services. This information will help them to get outside services for free that the agency does not offer.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES:
This program helps foster parents to improve parenting skills and provides knowledge of information to help the child that is in care. This will improve the foster parent’s self esteem and provide them with the skills to care for the children. The more prepared and educated the foster parent is the better the child will be that is in their home.

OPERATIONAL YOUTH SERVICES:
This program is for children in care ages 7 and up talk to and meet other children in care bi weekly to voice their fears, their concerns and ask questions. Each cohort of children will be placed into groups according to their ages and will have a venue where they can feel comfortable and allow their voices to be heard. Youth will express themselves through writing, art and poetry.

FOSTER PARENT FORUMS:
This program provides a forum for foster parents to come together and share ideas, advice, and support to one another. The concept is to educate foster parents as to their rights and roles, provide community awareness and empowerment so to ensure that they possess the skills needed in order to care for the child in their home. This service will provide children with a stable family relationship which in turn will decrease the number of movements/placements.

LEGAL SUPPORT:
Foster parents will be able to obtain a lawyer on a sliding scale fee.


THE INTAKE PROCESS BEGINS:

  1. When a foster parent comes in to ask for assistance or makes a phone call  to us about an agency.
  2. When a youth wants support and counseling. 
  3. A Foster child that has transitioned out of care needs services.
  4. A Foster parent is interested in adopting a teen.
  5. An individual is interested in becoming a foster parent.
  6. When a Foster parent needs legal services.
  7. Foster parent needs an advocate or mentor.
  8. When a foster parent needs resource information for a child.
 

ELIGIBILITY:

This program has been initiated for all foster parents and children in care that need assistance. We will provide Foster parent Mentors, foster parent advocates, support services, training and legal services.

VOLUNTEERS & INTERNS:

We are looking for youth volunteers between the age of 14 and 21 who have been in foster care as well as youth who have not been in care.  

We would also like experienced foster parents who have three to five years of experience or more to work with new foster parents. 

We are always looking for help, new ideas and hardworking individuals who are dedicated in completing our mission
